The NATO Energy Security Centre of Excellence (ENSEC COE) is proud to announce the appointment of LCL (OF-4/ FRA) Gildas Prêcheur as its new Deputy Director and Chief of Staff, effective August 28, 2024.
With an impressive career spanning over two decades, Lieutenant-colonel Gildas Prêcheur brings a wealth of knowledge and experience in both military logistics and energy security operations. His appointment marks a pivotal moment for the ENSEC COE as it continues to enhance its mission of ensuring the security and sustainability of NATO’s energy resources.
A Distinguished Career in Military and Energy Sectors
LCL Prêcheur’s career is distinguished by his dual expertise in logistics and operational energy services. Over the past 10 years, he has played key roles in strategic energy management, serving as the deputy of the Energy Policy and Anticipation office at the French Armed Forces General Staff in Paris (2021-2024) and leading the doctrine and international relations section at the French Armed Forces Fuel Service’s Operational Headquarters (2019-2020). Additionally, he has extensive experience working abroad, having served as Head of the SEA liaison detachment in Djibouti and as a fuel officer for French forces in Afghanistan and Tajikistan under the NATO ISAF mission.
Commitment to Energy Security and Crisis Management
LCL Prêcheur’s leadership in crisis management has been a highlight of his career. He served as Head of the COVID-19 operational center of Joint Operational Energy services for fuel crisis management, representing the French Ministry of Armed Forces in crucial interagency operations. His vast expertise in managing logistics and energy supply chains under challenging circumstances will be invaluable as NATO continues to adapt to evolving energy security threats.

Education and Training
LCL Prêcheur holds a Master’s degree in Energy and Products from the prestigious Institut Français du Pétrole (IFP) School and an Engineering Diploma from the renowned Saint-Cyr Military Academy. He has also completed the Advanced Military Studies Certificate at the French War College.

Known for his dynamic and people-focused leadership style, LCL Prêcheur is a strong advocate of teamwork and collaboration. His philosophy is deeply rooted in the belief that “together we can go further,” a principle he consistently applies in his work both in the military and the energy sector. Outside of his professional endeavors, LCL Prêcheur is an avid traveler and he is also a passionate sportsman, enjoying skiing, paragliding, and running.
