Enter by 5th January 2025 for a chance to win up to 500EUR and have your article featured in the NATO ENSEC COE’s Energy Highlights journal! Our journal explores how to strengthen the energy resilience of the armed forces, and the interactions between energy security, the energy transition, and national security.
Guiding research questions for submissions:
- Emerging trends in the energy transition: How are energy flows changing within Allied nations, what might this mean for future energy security?
- Import dependence: How does it affect national security, and how might this change into the future?
- Impact of energy transition on defence strategy: how is the push towards decarbonisation affecting military capability, and how are Allies responding?
- Emerging technologies for energy efficiency in the military: Explore the latest advancements and breakthroughs in solar, wind, hydro, and other renewable energy sources.
- Civil-military interaction: In what ways can military and civilian sectors work together more effectively to ensure energy security into the future?
- Addressing risks posed by energy infrastructure vulnerabilities: How can these risks be identified, assessed, and mitigated?
Prizes:
- Best Overall: €500 and featured in the journal
- Best Student: €200 and featured in the journal

Eligibility:
- Entrants should be nationals of NATO nations or active partner nations, or affiliated with an educational institution within these nations.
- Students can submit their articles for consideration of the Best Overall or Best Student. Current student status should be confirmed for consideration in the latter.
Guidelines:
- Submit your article by 23:59EET on 5th January 2025.
- Entries must be in English and between 1500 – 3000 words.
- Results will be announced in early February 2025.
- Each entrant may submit one article.
